TIC (Teacher In Charge)
Your TIC will be the “go-to” person for the lifeguards on duty and will be required to wear a high-visibility vest and not be swimming.
This person is responsible for the behaviour and supervision of the group, and ensuring adherence to the safety rules and regulations. Please advise the Thermal co-ordinator of anyone in the group who has medical conditions (e.g. allergy to bee stings), and any medications that you will have. In case of an emergency evacuation of the complex, the TIC will also be expected to take a roll-call of your group and report any missing members to the Pool’s designated Emergency Warden.
Adult Supervision of Students
It is a requirement that the adults in the group actively supervise the students (i.e. able to provide immediate assistance). Supervision can be provided either in-pool or from pool-side in each pool where there are students.
For safety reasons, groups must have a ratio of adults to students (for active supervision) subject to the age of students.
The required ratios are:
Student age | Ratio of students per adult |
Under 5 |
1:4 (Minimum & within arm’s reach) |
5 – 7 years | 1:4 (i.e. 1 adult for every 4 students) |
8 – 12 years | 1:6 |
13 – 15 years | 1:8 |
16+ years | 1:10 |
