How long may I stay in the complex?
Your admission allows you to stay in the complex as long as you like up until closing time. However, if you'd like to leave and visit again later in the day, you'll need to purchase a Same Day Return Pass. You can also buy a Two Day Pass to visit the next day.

Where are the Thermal Pools?
The Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa is located on the corner of Jacks Pass Road & Amuri Avenue. Entrance to the complex is at 42 Amuri Avenue, Hanmer Springs.

What days are you open?
The Thermal Pools are open daily, even if it's raining! Check our website for opening hours.
We are even open every public holiday except Christmas Day when all our facilities are closed.
The Spa at Hanmer Springs, our massage and beauty facility, is open daily from 10am to 6pm. -
Is car parking available?
Car parking is available on the streets surrounding the Thermal Pools.
There is also a day park located at 14a Amuri Avenue, which has plenty of car parks available if street parking is exhausted.
Our complex is located within a 5-10 minute easy walk of most accommodation in Hanmer Springs, so if you're staying here, you might find you can leave you car at your accommodation.

How do I get to the Thermal Pools if I don't have a car?
No problem! A shuttle company runs between Christchurch and Hanmer Springs. The Hanmer Springs Information Centre & Giftshop can help you book this. You can call them on 64 3 315 0020 or email info@visithurunui.co.nz

Can I hire swimwear, togs or shorts?
Yes, they are available for hire. Full piece swimwear or shorts hire - $7 plus a refundable bond of either your keys, wallet, phone, credit card, drivers License or $50 Cash.

What is the distance from Christchurch?
Hanmer Springs is just over a 90 minutes drive from Christchurch, 2 hours from Kaikoura and 3 hours drive from Greymouth.

Will the thermal water or sulphur pools discolour my swimwear?
No, although our thermal water is abrasive and long term exposure can cause wear. Thermal water will discolour jewellery so all jewellery should be removed before bathing.

Towels are not included in the entrance price but can be hired. Cost - $5 to hire

Do I need to book to use the Thermal Pools?
You won't need to pre-book, unless you'd like to use a Private Thermal Pool.
You can book a Private Thermal Pool online, on arrival at the complex, or by calling 64 3 315 0000. -
Are there banking facilities available?
There is a BNZ ATM located at the Four Square Supermarket on Conical Hill Road, a three minute walk from the Pools complex.

What age is a senior?
A senior is 60 years and over.

Is there a price for students?
Unfortunately we don't have a separate student price. Guests over 15 pay the full adult price. See our full list of pricing here.

Can I take my own food or picnic into the Thermal Pools?
Absolutely! Feel free to bring your own lunch or picnic. But please don't bring any alcohol or glass containers. We also don't allow visitors to bring their own BBQs. We also offer an extensive menu on site at our Tea Kiosk.

Do you add any other chemicals such as chlorine into the pools?
Our sulphur pools contain untreated thermal water, while our other pools contain either filtered and treated thermal water or treated freshwater. We do add chlorine as part of the filtering and treatment process.

Does the admission price include access to all the pools? Are slides extra?
Your admission charge includes access to all 22 outdoor thermal pools and the four water slides. The only additional cost would be if you wished to hire a private thermal pool.

We don't offer accommodation onsite at the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa. But fortunately, there's plenty available close by.

What rules apply to young children visiting the pools?
- All children must be actively supervised at all times by a responsible caregiver. A responsible caregiver is defined as someone aged 16 years or older.
- Children under 5 years must be within arm's reach at all times.
- Children between 5 and 7 years must be in visual contact, and close enough to get immediate assistance at all times.

Are there secure lockers at the Thermal Pools?
Yes we have secure lockers available for a small charge. Instructions on locker use are provided at the lockers.

Are there BBQs available for us to use in the complex?
Unfortunately, we don't have BBQs available for use, and ask that you don't bring any portable BBQs yourself.

Do we need to make a booking for treatments ie facial therapy, massage and/or body treatment?
We highly recommend bookings for any treatments at The Spa.

Fresh water lap pool: 28°C

What age is a child?
A child is 5-15 years old.

What are the benefits of the water?
The thermal waters are full of minerals that can help your body repair and rejuvenate. Being in the water increases the flow of oxygen-rich blood throughout the body, nourishing vital organs and tissues. The increased temperature of the water can help stimulate your immune system. Mineral springs contain high amounts of negative ions, which help promote wonderful feelings of physical well-being.

Is it safe for pregnant people to use the pools?
We don't recommend you use the sulphur or hexagon pools, due to their high temperature. In our other pools, we encourage you to take care to not become overheated, and to keep hydrated. If you're unsure if it's right for you, please consult your doctor or midwife.

Are the sulphur pools suitable for children under 2 years of age?
We suggest that children under 2 spend time in the cooler pools of the complex (up to 37 degrees). This does not include the sulphur or hexagonal pools.

Is there wheelchair access to the pools and changing rooms?
Yes - we have great accessibility, including access ramps to some pools and hoists available at others. There are wet wheelchairs available to access the pools and changing areas that have a changing table. The aqua play area also has ramp access for the kids. Are there changing rooms? Do the changing rooms have showers?
We have separate female and male changing rooms, each with free showers. There are also limited family changing rooms (without showers).
