Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa is New Zealand's premier geothermal aquatic complex, featuring 22 unique pools ranging from tranquil adult-only sanctuaries to family-friendly freshwater pools and play areas. Our mineral-rich waters, heated between 32-42°C, have been on an incredible 173-year journey which started as rain and snow on Hanmer Springs' mountains, seeping two kilometres underground where they're warmed by the Earth's core before being drawn to the surface.
Whether you're seeking relaxation in our luxury day spa with private pools and steam rooms, or adventure on our epic water slides including New Zealand's largest aquatic thrill ride, there's something for everyone. Complete with a lazy river, lap pool, and our famous Tea Kiosk Café serving wood-fired pizzas, we've been creating memorable experiences for 150 years.
Rooted in Māori legend where warrior Tamatea's fire gave birth to these hot springs known as 'where the ashes of Tamatea's fire lay', our pools have long served as a restorative stop for travelers, and continue that tradition today as a world-class destination for visitors young and young at heart.
