Hurunui Tourism is a district tourism organisation (DTO) that is tasked by Hurunui District Council to market the Hurunui district to domestic and international visitors.

Our current marketing plan objectives are based around two areas of focus from the Hurunui Tourism Strategy 2017-2022:

Destination Development
Developing Hurunui as a tourism destination and collaborating with key stakeholders within and outside of our district.

Destination Marketing
Targeting key markets to visit our district and actively selling all that our district offers.

  • What's all the fuss about with famils?

Famils are an essential part of the work that Hurunui Tourism, Tourism New Zealand and the trade, media and consumer team from ChristchurchNZ does. Here are two handy guides to understanding the famils or 'familiarisation tours'.

  • Tourism 2025

Written by the Tourism Industry Association (TIA), Tourism 2025 is a framework to unite New Zealand's large and diverse tourism industry and ignite strong, aspirational economic growth.  Check out the summary document.

The 2018 scorecard is now available.

  • Official Visitors Guide (OVG)

Hurunui Tourism currently produces the OVG on a yearly basis and prints 60,000 copies.

The OVG is extensively distributed at i-SITEs throughout the top of the South Island, at the Christchurch International Airport and via two distribution companies to motels, hotels and rental vehicle agencies.

Want copies of the OVG?  Head to Beck and Cauls website to order either 20, 50 or 100 copies or you can order a carton of 160 guides.

Interested in advertising in the OVG?  The OVG takes a couple of months to pull together in preparation for the summer season.  We usually start work around June each year and aim to have the guide available in the market before October.  Take a look at this years prospectus to see the advert options available and the pricing structure.

Any business in the Hurunui District can advertise in the OVG, if you are unsure if you qualify or have any questions about the OVG then please don't hesitate to get in touch.
